We let the locals have the weekends so we didn't do much yesterday. That allows us to continue our adventures while in the dead zones and also continue our review of the Da Vinci Exhibit that began here Da Vinci, Part 1, continued here Da Vinci, Part 2 and here Da Vinci, Part 3.
He was involved in developing tools involving hydraulics. He developed a water operated saw.
An apparatus for breathing underwater.
He developed a hyrdarulic drill press.

Currently in Moss Landing CA (Low 52 Partly Sunny High 63)
We drove along the coast yesterday and there are a lot of photos to go thru so we will blog on that later. This allows us to continue our adventures while in the dead zones and also continue our review of the Da Vinci Exhibit that we saw while in Parker Arizona that began here with Da Vinci, Part One and continued here with Da Vinci, Part Two.
He was also involved in developing tools for moving large heavy objects. It was so cool to see working models of his inventions, some you could operate and some you could only look at. Here is a mechanism for putting columns in place.
A autolocking mechanism so the heavy objects couldn't fall and crush whatever was beneath.

Currently in Moss Landing CA (Low 42 Partly Sunny High 74)
We had a lazy day yesterday and it felt good. We met a friend that Bob used to work with at "The Whole Enchilada" in Moss Landing very near our park. Bob had lengua vera cruz and Jo had a unique chile relleno, both were excellent. They are thinking about buying an RV so we went back and gave them a tour.
After they left we took a walk along the beach. There were dolphins and seals frolicking just off shore but could never get a good wave with them although you can see one seal.
Then we came back to our rig, sat outside and read, made some phone calls, and just relaxed.
A lazy but a great day. Today we plan to drive along the coast and take some more pictures, and of course do some eating, a brunch and a lupper.

Moss Landing CA (Low 52 Mostly Sunny High 81)
Yesterday we did a little driving tour. Stopped at the Camping World in San Martin on our way to San Jose and the Fish Market Restaurant. It is great when one of your all time favorites from years ago, long before we began fulltiming, still provides great food. We split a king crab blt and a sablefish entree with au gratin potatoes. There was so much king crab on the blt that we were shocked it matched its picture in the lobby. The sablefish is a mild, flakey white fish that is excellent. What a great meal.
This allows us to continue our adventures while in the dead zones and also continue our review of the Da Vinci Exhibit that began here Da Vinci Exhibit, Part One that documented what we already knew. We saw the Da Vinci Exhibit at the Blue Water Casino in Parker Arizona and now document what we did not until we saw this exhibit.
He was involved in developing tools for war, he was his own military industrial complex. He envisioned the first tank.
He had designed a covered assault wagon for scaling walls.

Currently in Moss Landing CA (Low 52 Partly Sunny High 85)
Yesterday was an easy day of eating, shopping, laundry and the beach. We headed to the nearby town of Marina California to get our Wal-Mart shopping fix. We went with a tried and true place to have breakfast, Dennys and had a good one. But that is not the eating we are talking about, more on that later.
We then shopped at Wal-Mart and Bed, Bath and Beyond and drove back to the park to put in laundry. One thing we have noticed since we got to California is the abundance of farmers markets and fruit stands along the highway. Today was no exception and we got some great local cherries and strawberries, enough strawberries to freeze some.
We got back to the park, unloaded, put in laundry and headed to the beach. We picked the KOA since it was so close to the ocean and within walking distance of a lot of good restaurants. We already have had some great clam chowder and a crab sandwich with fresh avocado that was real good. We have plans for the cioppino at Phils and the mexican at The Whole Enchilada, both within walking distance. We are driving to San Jose today and eating at one of our all time favorites, The Fish Market. On to the beach.
A short walking distance away is the harbor.

A little further is Salinas River State Beach. Here is the trail to the ocean. The sand is so fine here our feet just sunk into it.
We walked along the beach. The sand was firmer here and easier to walk.
Of course there were shorebirds.
We walked along the beach some more.
On the way back we took this picture to show the KOA and how close it is to the harbor and the beach.
We are so incredibly lucky to one week gaze upon the wonders of Yosemite and the next to walk along the beach.

Moss Landing CA (Low 53 Sunny High 75)
We left the beautiful Escapee SKP Park of the Sierras near Coarsegold yesterday and went to Moss Landing. It was approx. 150 miles, here is the route we took. It was nice to have some straight roads for awhile after all the curvy roads with switchbacks in the National Parks.
We are staying at the KOA in Moss Landing for a week. Here are some images from the web. The park is close to the Harbor, in fact you can see it in the picture below.
While in the area we plan to eat some seafood, catch up on laundry since you could not do laundry in the rig at the Escapee park, and see some great coastline.

Coarsegold CA (Low 45 Sunny Currently 49)
Moss Landing CA (Sunny High 79)
We didn't do much over the weekend so we can catch up on our activities while in the dead zones. While in Parker Arizona we saw an incredible exhibit, so incredible and so much information we decided to break it into multiple entries.
We visited the Da Vinci exhibit at the Blue Water Casino. We thought we knew a lot about the man, we learned even more. Here is the most famous self portrait.
Today we will detail what we knew about the man while future entries will cover what we did not know. The photos we publish in our blog will be a small portion of the total number we took. For the entire collection of Da Vinci Exhibit pictures you can go to our flickr site.
We knew about his very early work on wing design for airplanes and a very early concept of the helicopter. It was neat to see working models of them though.
He was also a sculptur, here is the model for the Storza Monument, the largest equisterian monument ever conceived.
He was also an artist, his most famous painting.
Also the Last Supper.
Being readers of science fiction we knew that he also developed a working robot, it was capable of a couple of movements and inspired Issac Asimov to write "I, Robot".
Leonardo was an amazing man, inventor and genius. Next we will explore his work related to war.
Today we head off to Moss Landing California to spend a week on the coast between Monterey and Santa Cruz.

Coarsegold CA (Low 41 Mostly Sunny High 75)
We drove Glacier Point Road to look down on the valley that we had just driven thru. We didn't think it was possible but it may have even been more scenic than the valley. We went on a Friday and it was a lot more crowded at the entrance. We cannot believe how crowded it was in May and can only wonder how crowded it must be in July or August.
The scenery along the way was gorgeous.
Here is Half Dome in the distance as we get closer to the end.
We came to Washburn Point.
Viewable from Washburn Point is Vernal Falls, both Upper and Lower.
The highlight of Washburn Point is probably Half Dome (we sure took a lot of photos of Half Dome from a lot of different spots). We liked this view of Half Dome because Vernal Falls is also in the picture.
Washburn Point was where we had lunch. Sitting in our truck eating ham sandwiches with this view of Half Dome and the Falls, doesn't get any better than this.
Then it was off to Glacier Point. Of course there is Half Dome.

A neat view of the valley below that we were in a couple of days earlier with Yosemite Falls.
This is one incredibly beautiful National Park.
